Manufacturing Career Opportunities

A manufacturing career is possible in Huron Township. Huron Township has a thriving manufacturing industry; the Local Development Finance Authority District alone has over 1800 manufacturing career jobs.  Huron Township is a prime spot to obtain an education in manufacturing and gain work experience at the same time to later have a successful career in manufacturing. 

University of Michigan Ann Arbor is number two in the rankings of the U.S. News & World Report in Industrial/Manufacturing Education.  University of Michigan Ann Arbor and Dearborn offer both undergraduate and graduate manufacturing engineering programs.   In Huron Township, commuting to either U of M Ann Arbor or Dearborn location is very possible.  Ann Arbor is about 36 minutes away from Huron Township, and Dearborn is even closer at a drive of about 28 minutes.

In the Downriver area in the past few years, public high schools have gotten more and more involved with the global organization FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, and the FIRST Robotics Competition, or FRA.  Woodhaven, Trenton, Grosse Ile, Southgate Anderson, Allen Park, Riverview, and Taylor High Schools all have established clubs that take part in the FRA.  Huron High School students are able to individually enter into FIRST Robotics Competitions with a teacher’s guidance.  Huron High School happens to have a Math and Robotics Teacher, Tonya Andry-Stelter, who would be very qualified to help a student join the FRA.  Huron High School also has the help of Eric Clark, the Automotive Technology Teacher, and Justin Hall, the Industrial Arts Teacher, who promote manufacturing in the youth of Huron Township.

Work experience is a vital part of a college education.  To obtain a career after completing an undergraduate or graduate program, employers look for applicants that already have experience in their field.  In Huron Township, there are many opportunities for work experience because of its large manufacturing industry; Champion Food, SET Enterprises Inc., Sunoco, Brose, Inergy, and more are all located in Huron Township.  Look into The Future of Manufacturing to find out more about manufacturing opportunities.
